How to choose thread for machine embroidery
A practical framework for comparing fibre, denier, surface effect and stitch testing before bulk production.
Start with the embroidery result
Bright polyester supports a lustrous, defined stitch. Matt polyester gives a softer, lower-sheen surface. Rayon, cotton-touch, textured and metallic constructions create different visual and tactile effects. The right choice depends on artwork, fabric, stitch density and care conditions—not a keyword alone.
Match denier and construction
Common specifications such as 75D and 120D affect coverage, detail and machine settings. Finer thread may support small lettering; heavier or textured constructions can build a fuller surface. Needle, tension and speed must be confirmed on the intended embroidery machine.
Approve a stitch sample
Screen images and digital colour cards are selection aids. Before bulk production, confirm the physical colour, thread–fabric interaction, stitch appearance and care performance with a sample under the agreed conditions.
